Putting Concentration – Know The Line and Great Feel
Most amateur golfers don’t spend a lot of time working to improve their putting. They don’t see putting as an important part of the game. I guess it’s because of the big difference between swinging at a golf ball and putting a golf ball. It could be an ego thing, who knows!
If you’re wondering how to be the best putter in your foursome, it’s simple. You need to eliminate those 3 & 4 putt greens. Putting is so important because it can make up 40%-50% of your golf score. Putting is the final determining factor of your score on every hole and a missed putt is a mistake you cannot recover from.

Most amateur golfer’s three-putt more often during the first nine holes then the last nine. The reason for this is that by the time they start the last nine they finally have a good feel for the greens. Many golf professionals agree that having the ability to read the greens will create great putters. Determining the absolute line of putt to the center of the hole can only be achieved with practice and experience.
Another very important aspect to becoming a great putter is having a great touch. The most important aspect of successful putting is controlling ball speed. Controlling ball speed can only be accomplished by developing your touch. Most amateur golfers struggle with ball speed and when asked about a recent putt if they thought the line was up hill or down hill they say, “I never thought about the speed.” They struggle more with speed than direction.
Here are three pieces of advice for applying all of the above.
1. Determine whether your putt is going up hill or down hill by looking towards the front of the green.
2. You need to forget the mechanics of the putting swing by clearing your mind of all mechanical thought and just do it.
3. Always pre-visualize your golf ball going into the cup before you hit it. See yourself making it in your mind before you hit it.
So get started towards lowering your total score by improving your putting.
